Hi

Could I ask for some help on deciphering a first war German dog tag.

It's standard  size with two halves identical writing  on both

The writing  is as follows

3/inf.ers.Bt1.11

0    1175

How would I find a name  and his  fate

Many thanks Ian

Are you sure it's WW1? Can you post a picture please.

"Two identical halves wihout a name" sounds like WW2 (well, to mé at least)?

Like this example:

Thanks Maxwell!

I'll leave to the real experts, but to me this is typical WW2.

Can't find an Infanterie Ersatz Bataillon 11 in WW1, but there was one in WW2

*edit* Jools got there first!

Oh that's what the ER stands for, I was guessing 3rd infantry (something) battalion 11. 2 out of 3 isn't bad!

Thanks guys

any more info would be greatly received.

How do I find a name etc

This is outside of this forum's scope as it is WW2. I think you should try to find the name books of the unit in question (German Army archives? Wehrmachtsauskunftstelle?). Whether they are publicly available is doubtful, I would say.
