Guest Posted 14 July , 2018 Share Posted 14 July , 2018 Would any old salt with foreign-going papers know what the letters "N.C.S." stand for? The letters are used in the listing of casualties from the loss of "Good Hope" at Coronel on 1st. November 1914. It applies to a group of men recruited in St. Lucia while "Good Hope" headed south (via Halifax and St. Lucia at least) to take up station on the South American Station. .There is a separate thread for these native stokers lost but it would help if "N.C.S." could be cracked as it may be possible to track further records
Wexflyer Posted 15 July , 2018 Share Posted 15 July , 2018 NCS was officially used by the Admiralty as an abbreviation for Non-Continuous Service, though whether that is the meaning here I can't say RN Use of NCS
