chaz Posted 14 July , 2018 Share Posted 14 July , 2018 Hi Mark the WW2 defence can be replaced for around £8 to 10, they were not named here from medal fairs or ebay, new re makes can also be purchased but sometimes cost more than their originals. As for the WW1 he had a trio, his MIC https://www.ancestry.co.uk/interactive/1262/30850_A001727-02555?pid=532497&backurl=https://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?_phsrc%3DuEa3529%26_phstart%3DsuccessSource%26usePUBJs%3Dtrue%26indiv%3D1%26dbid%3D1262%26gsfn%3Dj%26gsln%3Dworrallo%26gsfn_x%3D0%26cp%3D11%26qh%3DokY65AUDuDI3zKEDR9U3%2BQ%3D%3D%26new%3D1%26rank%3D1%26redir%3Dfalse%26gsln_x%3D1%26gss%3Dangs-d%26pcat%3D39%26fh%3D3%26h%3D532497%26recoff%3D10%26ml_rpos%3D4&treeid=&personid=&hintid=&usePUB=true&_phsrc=uEa3529&_phstart=successSource&usePUBJs=true an unusual name, also a neglected regiment to collect to so a search/alert set up on ebay might locate, also join the British medal forum and post in the wanted section. http://www.britishmedalforum.com/viewforum.php?f=
plattyuk Posted 14 July , 2018 Share Posted 14 July , 2018 I’m the current custodian of Joseph’s medals and have agreed to repatriate them to the family. Always nice to return to the family lost medals mark

sotonmate Posted 16 July , 2018 Share Posted 16 July , 2018 (edited) Mark Such a pleasing, and long odds, result ! I forget the estimated percentage of BWMs that were sold for melting down after the war so it is a great result for you. Just to mention that some of Joseph's ASC duties included escorting horses (conducting) out to France and Flanders by ferry and back again. Many,if not most, of the horses were shipped out of Southampton here, from two local Remount Depots at Swaythling and Romsey, so it is possible that Joseph served hereabouts !
