Sue L Posted 1 July , 2018 Share Posted 1 July , 2018 Hello Can anyone tell me more about this medal index card - ref WO/372/22/45985. it is different from others I have seen and I wonder if that means anything special? Also, what the cause of discharge "Para 392 XXVA K.R." might mean or Action taken "List C Y -582" Thanks Sue L
IPT Posted 1 July , 2018 Share Posted 1 July , 2018 Hi Sue, That's a Silver War Badge index card. Para 392 XXVa of the King's Regulations means that he was discharged as "Surplus to military requirements "
Sue L Posted 1 July , 2018 Author Share Posted 1 July , 2018 Thanks - I didn't know that! I have now found the Silver War Badge full entry This might be a silly question -sorry- but given that this was in January 1919, do you have any idea why he might have been given the S W Badge as "surplus to military requirements" rather than just being demobilised? Andy Wade Posted 3 July , 2018 Share Posted 3 July , 2018 (edited) Probably because he was no longer fit for service, so was discharged with the SWB and not put into the Z Reserve of soldiers ready to rejoin the colours should war break out again, don't forget that the war was technically still on until the signing of the Treaty of Versailles in June 1919. http://www.longlongtrail.co.uk/soldiers/a-soldiers-life-1914-1918/enlisting-into-the-army/british-army-reserves-and-reservists/ Edited 3 July , 2018 by Andy Wade Added link to Reserves page on the Long, Long Trail website
