pensions

can anyone tell me the reasons why a soldiers family would not have been given a pension..i cant find ny thing on my relative ..my grandmother refused to tell us but said she wasnt awarded a pension because her husband?..can anyone shed any light?..desertion maybe?

Mutiny, desertion, self inflicted wounds. Pretty much anything that the military regarded as dishonerable and would have warranted a prison sentance.

From your original post, although the lady was your grandmother, it sounds like the gentleman was not your grandfather. Her first husband then?

If so, it should be possible for you to trace her marriage certificate, which will give you his personal details and from this you can see if he is on the CWGC, etc. If not, he may have died after discharge from the services, in which case you may be able to get hold of his death certificate.

The key is really his name, etc. Without this, your search is not likely to go anywhere.
