THIS WAS SOMETHING COMMON DURING WW1, AS SOLDIERS BELIEVED THI WAY THEY WILL BE COVER THEIR BACK FROM ARTILLERY. THE SECOND PHOTO IS SHOWING A STIRNPANZER. BUT THE SOLDIER, INSTEAD TO WEAR IT UP HIS HELMET, HE HAS PUT IT TO COVER HIS FACE. ALSO THIS WAS VERY POPULAR TACTIC DURING WW1. I HOPE I HELP. REGARDS, D.
