Rifle Brigade Question

According to the sources I have seen the 3rd Battalion was a Regular Army Btn, and went to France in 1914. A relative served with the Btn but not until late 1916, and, as far as I can tell, he was a conscript. One would have expected him to have joined a New Army battalion; could anyone explain this apparent anomaly, please? Perhaps it's a simple matter of putting men where they were needed at that point in the War, unless there is some other explanation.

You've answered it with your guess - men were being posted to any battalion, even regular battalions, to make up numbers.
