1191 Cpl / Sgt J.E.Cooper 5th Notts & Derbys

OLD ROBIN HOOD

Recommended Posts

Greetings from Sherwood Forest where the weather is beautiful and the visitor numbers are increasing.

Yet another research project. I have really tried hard with this one but can get nowhere.

1914-15 Star to 1191 Cpl  J.E.Cooper  Notts & Derbys  and War and Victory to Sgt J.E.Cooper , same number.

then  a  George V   T.F.E.M . to 1191 Sgt J.E.Cooper 5th Notts & Derbys.

I can find no mention of him anywhere. I have a similar group to a chap in the 8th battalion and have the same

problem with him also.   Is it that I am not searching in the right places.

So if anyone can help I will be most grateful.

Greetings Barbara

Many thanks for the information. Having his first name helped me to find his M.I.C

Hopefully I will find other details about him like when he was awarded his T.F.E.M.

So his MIC says to France 25/2/15.

This is backed up by a medical record dated 2/7/16 5th Battn SF. Sgt. Record from No 2 General Hospital at Le Havre. Shows 17 months service in the field and 8 year service overall - implying enlistment date c1908. Gun shot wound right leg. Age 28.

Transferred to Hospital Ship Panama or Lanfranc

Appears on War Office casualty list on 4/8/16. Shows his home town to be Alfreton.

25/2/15 is day 1/5 Battn SF went to France (LLT)

BW & VM roll show his name to be James Edward Cooper and says 1/5 Battn.

1914/15 Star roll confirms disembodiment date of 8/2/19.

Quite possibly the James Edward Cooper born 14/8/1889 Alfreton. Miner in 1911 census. Ambulance Driver in 1939 and died 1943 (Belper district registration)
