Achrisjack Posted 20 June , 2018 Share Posted 20 June , 2018 I have been trying for years to identify the soldier standing in this photograph which was found amongst my grandmother's possessions. He is a family member as he looks like my father. I thought if I could identify the regiment, I may have a chance at finding a name.

Wardog Posted 20 June , 2018 Share Posted 20 June , 2018 Lack of epaulettes usualy point to RAF if badges are not clearly seen. OP picture is RAF between the wars. Regards, Paul.

IPT Posted 20 June , 2018 Share Posted 20 June , 2018 Ah, so if he was in the Aircraft Apprentice Scheme, then the photo dates to 1920 or later. That means that the earliest he could have been born is 1905.
Achrisjack Posted 6 July , 2018 Author Share Posted 6 July , 2018 Thank you all. So useful. If between the wars I have an idea where to look to identify the man.
FROGSMILE Posted 8 July , 2018 Share Posted 8 July , 2018 (edited) As an interesting aside from the OP image that started this thread, the second photo shows an apprentice arm badge. A coloured disk behind the Apprentice Wheel Badge, worn on the left sleeve, indicated the Squadron: red was number 1, green number 2 and blue number 3. However, I think that the version or pattern of badge shown in the photo is an earlier type, seemingly made of cloth, although that may be the backing. I think the photo must be of him.
