Sheffield to the Somme bike ride begins

A team of 17 riders are cycling more than 400 miles from Sheffield to the Somme raising money to improve the Sheffield Memorial Park, which is dedicated to the Sheffield Pals of World War One.

BBC

They've set a target of £20,000, but they've already raised almost £18,000.

The riders will leave Sheffield Town Hall later today - it was where Sheffield men and boys enlisted to serve during World War One.

The team is due to arrive at the Somme in four days.

It appears that Col Norton (ex Hallamshire Battalion) is involved in the bike ride, so in which case, you can be sure the renovations will be appropriate.

You will not find a more dedicated advocate of the York and Lancaster Regiment.
