Ken Lees Posted 13 June , 2018 Share Posted 13 June , 2018 Does anyone have any information about a number of soldiers' bodies found just north of Polygon Wood a couple of days ago? One was idientified during the recovery process, I believe. I was told that one was still sitting on a wooden box when found, suggesting that the trench he was in was hit by a shell. JWK Posted 13 June , 2018 Share Posted 13 June , 2018 A couple of months ago, February 2018, there was this story in the newspapers: https://www.hln.be/regio/zonnebeke/resten-soldaten-gevonden-op-plek-waar-toevallig-woi-monument-komt~a361860c/ During the build of the "Brothers in Arms Memorial" the remains of 5 soldiers were found. "1 German and 4 French" The French soldiers were buried in a row. There were no identificationmarks found. Maybe the news that one of them hs been identified has not yet filtered through to the newspapers? Ken Lees Posted 13 June , 2018 Author Share Posted 13 June , 2018 Thanks JWK, but it's not that one. These bodies were discovered 3/4 days ago at the most and have only just been recovered. They are British (or B.E.F. at least).
