Alan24 Posted 14 June , 2018 Author Share Posted 14 June , 2018 Thanks Kevin for the summary. I'm impressed that all you guys have basically cracked it within 24 hours, even though a couple of names might have two options. Like HolyMoley, I do have pictures of the names somewhere so will check that those in post 25 don't already have their names inscribed in their own right. From HM's pic in post 17 there appears to be 3 MELB... so that needs to be double checked. If they are not already on the memorial, they should be. Regards Alan. I cannot see any clear connection on CWGC...there is an E Melbourne but a Yorkshire Regiment....so a misread of an for F for an E is likely too? Andy I'll try and get details of the other two for you but the Meeting House is only open on Wednesdays...and I might have to go to Gatwick next Wednesday! Odds on they could be related. Alan24 Posted 14 June , 2018 Author Share Posted 14 June , 2018 If anyone's in the area and wants to pop in to see the display, here's the details of the location.
IPT Posted 14 June , 2018 Share Posted 14 June , 2018 For the record, I disagree with Charles Brown and Frank Melbourne. I believe that R Brown is 645299 Thomas Reginald Brown as per post #19, and my feeling is that T Melbourne is the Fareham death in 1920, as per post #20. Alan24 Posted 21 June , 2018 Author Share Posted 21 June , 2018 I got to meet John Hawkins a few days ago in Ringwood. He's an 88 year old ex Royal Navy Lieutenant. As well as finding information on 3 out of the 5 names, this thread has also given more details, previously unknown, on Capt. Charles Brown of the RGA. The two unknowns being F. Melbourne & B. Kendall. Frank Melbourne is already identified on the memorial as AF Melbourne. AT Kendall is already identified on the memorial as A Kendall. John expresses his thanks to all who have contributed in this letter. Alan.
