Guest Posted 12 June , 2018 Share Posted 12 June , 2018 Hi, Does anybody have a trench map around Hooge in September 1915. I am specifically looking for the location of 1st Wiltshire on 25 Sept 1915. They were situated near Halfway House(?) and Grafton, Union and Castle Streets (?). Thanks John
sotonmate Posted 20 June , 2018 Share Posted 20 June , 2018 (edited) Welcome to the Forum ! You may have seen the long account for 26th Sep 1915 in the unit War Diary WO95/1415/2 on the Discovery database (or on Ancestry UK) but there are no maps as Appendixes, so it may be more successful accessing the War Diary of 7 Infantry Briagade HQ for t his period (WO95/1413/4). clk Posted 20 June , 2018 Share Posted 20 June , 2018 Hi John, I had a quick look at the 7 Infantry Brigade HQ; 3 Division HQ (General Staff, and A&Q); Commander RE and Commander RA (3 Division) diaries but didn't see any maps. The best that I found was a sketch map for the medical arrangements for the assault on25th September 1915, in the diary for the Assistant Director Medical Services, 3 Division. It shows Castle Street (a communication trench). Image Source: Ancestry.co.uk - WW1 war diary collection (ADMS 3 Division) Regards Chris
MBrockway Posted 20 June , 2018 Share Posted 20 June , 2018 This from Sep 1915 should do you for GRAFTON STREET .... Mark
clk Posted 20 June , 2018 Share Posted 20 June , 2018 Hi, 32 minutes ago, MBrockway said: This from Sep 1915 should do you for GRAFTON STREET That's really interesting. I think that I read that they were in the Brigade reserve on the day. The map shows Upper/Lower Grafton Street, and how they related to Regent Street and Conduit Street. The latter are also shown on the sketch map that I posted. I wonder if (also given the reference to Castle Street) they were in the section just shy of the Menin Road.
