pagius Posted 21 May , 2018 Share Posted 21 May , 2018 Trying to track a chap in the RASC who first arrives in France (Le Havre) on 19th May 1918 and by 23rd May arrives with his transport column at 379 Siege Battery RGA near Rouen. I've read elsewhere that 379 SB was in Palestine 1917 but had embarked at Alexandria end of April 1918 . Up to April 1918 is in WO95/4407 , I think, but can't find it in NA search or Ancestry War Diaries. Can anyone point me to a War Diary for 379th Siege Battery RGA May 1918 onwards? Another thread on GWF has 379th, 420th, 443rd Siege Batteries [61st Brigade RGA] ceased to belong to EEF 21 May 1918 so should I be looking for 61st Brigade RGA elsewhere ? Thanks for any help. kevinrowlinson Posted 22 May , 2018 Share Posted 22 May , 2018 From 24th May 1918 try 13 Brigade, http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/a6f72551ce1c4c3eacc99f4949eecae7. Kevin
Ron Clifton Posted 22 May , 2018 Share Posted 22 May , 2018 Kevin just beat me to it! From the beginning of 1918, when the fluid compositions of Heavy Artillery Groups gave way to Brigades RGA with more or less fixed composition, heavy and siege batteries ceased to keep separate War Diaries. 13 Brigade's War Diary can be downloaded from the Kew website, but I don't think it is available on Ancestry yet.
