First, welcome to the forum!

A report of his death was published in the Herald of Wales and Monmouthshire Recorder of 4 December 1915, it stated that he had previously been wounded in the thigh and shoulder in May, and that he had also been gassed.  http://newspapers.library.wales/view/4114967/4114972/102/Kennedy

Edit to add: His medal index card shows that he landed in France on 25 March 1915, and his 1914-15 Star medal roll entry states that he was 2nd Battalion. It is possible (or probable) that he was wounded whilst serving with 2nd Battalion and then posted to 1st on his return. 2nd Battalion moved to Salonika later in 1915, landing there on 4 December.

Hi Chris and all

The 1911 census shows the occupants of 34 Green Park Street, Aberavon as Mr Nicholas Keogh and his wife Elizabeth. They have 7 children. Arthur CARTER , 16 yrs and Sarah Carter 14 yrs with 5 other siblings surname Keogh. The newspaper article shows his mother to be Mrs M Keogh of 32, Green Park St. and Soldiers' Effects shows the sole legatee as his mother ELIZABETH Keogh.

Arthur CARTER was Pte 11324 in the Welsh Regt. he was attested on 13.8.14 but discharged  19.10.14 as inefficient. His n.of k. is given as his mother Mrs Keogh of 17 Angel Street, Sandfield, Aberavon."Pension" records on Ancestry. He is shown as being  5' 7..1/4" tall,, dark brown hair, the same as an Arthur Kennedy who was imprisoned on 2.2.1914 for being D & D and previously in 1911 for Wilful Damage.   SO....He obviously changed his name to sign up again.

In 1939 Nicholas and Elizabeth Keogh born 6.7.1873 are at 35 Green Park Street.

Nicholas Keogh b. 4.6. 1860 Wexford, Ireland. d.1948 Neath, Glamorgan.....his mother is shown on a tree on Ancestry as Mary KENNEDY. Arthur's grandmother.

Regards Barry
