Read very little about this place, its mentioned in a couple of books book no detail and must have been very big.

Anyone got further information, maps photos etc?

Yes.  The driving school was moved from Wailly to Aveluy in January 1918 (so outside my date range of detailed study) because of the then threat of German attack.  It fell into Germna hands at the end of March 1918 whereas Wailly remained in British hands throughout.

The Tank Driving School is very elusive. IWM photos Q 9891 & Q 9893 show the area but it does not look like Aveluy. The Camera Returns team were there in April searching for it but the landscape did not look right. Maps were of no help either, we are at a loss.....

IWM Photo Q 9890 is also a good one from Aveluy.

Four Officer-Instructors in the tank shed at the Tank Corps Driving School. Aveluy, Spring 1918.

In his book 'Tank Corps' ,in the section on the March 1918 Retreat, Clough Williams Ellis refers to:

Another incident — of which the authors have not been able to obtain many particulars — was the action fought by a scratch Tank force formed out of all the fighting Tanks from the driving school, Aveluy.
