Beechhill Posted 15 May , 2018 Share Posted 15 May , 2018 Just wanted to share this poignant excerpt of a German artillery man's diary. The stark realism of losing his best buddy to a direct hit and his matter-of-fact recount of burying enemy (and "non-related" German) dead is quite blood chilling. I'll link to the Google Translate as it is quite adequate (and I feel lazy). I'm of course happy to clarify if any questions arise. /Dan https://tinyurl.com/yaztc3n4

Beechhill Posted 17 May , 2018 Author Share Posted 17 May , 2018 You're most welcome. Just noticed the burial part isn't very clear; they literally just dragged the bodies to a shell hole by hacking an axe into the tunic of the fallen. A very hardboiled solution, but probably practical and sanitary given the various degrees of decomposition.
