chaz Posted 10 May , 2018 Share Posted 10 May , 2018 Cwgc has him listed as CSM A J Lawson L/ 17416, Middlesex regt, his cemetery details list as P.P presumably private purchase headstone? sdgw has 157798 Labout corps , formerly 96513 R.F.A he was a pre war soldier enlisting age 14, working up to CSM / BSM. His service file exists. He has a proper pile with cross granite headstone, similar to a war memorial, not the cwgc standard type. As there would have been a substantial cost to the granite one I wonder if , as he died in a U.K hospital of T.B, maybe his regiment paid for the memorial? Any thoughts please? Family? cant figure out how. To attach on the ipad🤒
HarryBrook Posted 11 May , 2018 Share Posted 11 May , 2018 The report of his funeral in the Yarmouth Independent newspaper of 20 July 1918 might suggest that the grave memorial may have been paid for by comrades in the Territorial Artillery based in Great Yarmouth. He died at the Middlesex War Hospital, Napsbury, St. Albans. He left estate of just over £200 according to his probate record.
