ForeignGong Posted 10 May , 2018 Share Posted 10 May , 2018 Hi Don't know if this is of any use to researchers of the above, but go to the bottom of the page and there is the following to download. I found this very interesting hope you do also. Peter

Kimberley John Lindsay Posted 10 May , 2018 Share Posted 10 May , 2018 Dear Peter, Thanks for that. I am researching Cecil Leonard Harland, BRC & St. J. of J. - an Orderly who was decorated with a minor Belgian award (Decoration Civique) during the Great War. I have his Medal Index Card, however, I had hoped that his other details might have been preserved by the British Red Cross. Unfortunately, Norman Gooding kindly advised that this is not the case. I will - thanks to your posting - now try the Museum of the Order of St John. If you don't ask, you don't get! Kindest regards, Kim.

BarbaraG Posted 10 May , 2018 Share Posted 10 May , 2018 (edited) As BRCS being upgraded only have a transcription from FMP... Kimberley John Lindsay Posted 10 May , 2018 Share Posted 10 May , 2018 Dear Barbara, Many thanks for going to the not inconsiderable trouble of guiding me out of the darkness of BRC ignorance, vis-a-vis Cecil Leonard Harland. Super! I must press-gang one of my GWF mates who has access to FMP, to beam me the C. L. Harland 1939 infos. As usual with my medal acquisitions, my aim is to find that elusive Image - whereby the medals themselves immediately become secondary. The idea is also, to somehow verify the fact that Harland 'was noticed' sufficiently, to warrant an award of any sort - Belgian or otherwise! The great thing about the Great War Forum, is that it can be done - and has been done... Kindest regards, Kim.
Guest Posted 9 November , 2018 Share Posted 9 November , 2018 Hello, I am trying to trace details of my mother's grandfather, Harry Percy Light. He was born on the 10th August 1878. He was deployed with the BEF in France in 1915 - British Comm France R 1st Johns Ambulance Crops, British Hospital Formation. He completed his service on the 9th February 1918 and died four years later. My ill mother would love to know more about this gentle man as I can't find anything more about him. Thanks DawnM
alf mcm Posted 9 November , 2018 Share Posted 9 November , 2018 Dawn, Welcome to the forum. Harry may well have been a member of the St. John's Ambulance Brigade, but his war service for the dates you have quoted was with the Royal Naval Reserve, as an Able Bodied Seaman. His service record is here on Findmypast;- https://search.findmypast.co.uk/record?id=GBM%2FADM337%2F94%2F00271&parentid=GBM%2FADM%2F337%2F055239 Regards, Alf McM
seaJane Posted 9 November , 2018 Share Posted 9 November , 2018 If you haven't a FMP subscription, or can't get to the local public library to use their subscription, his RNVR record is available here for £3.50 - not sure if the FMP one is definitely RNR (there is a difference) or if there has been a typo somewhere along the line:- http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/D7708650
alf mcm Posted 9 November , 2018 Share Posted 9 November , 2018 SeaJane, It looks like Findmypast have their records mixed up. He is definitely listed in their RNR records. His service number matches for both sets of records. Dawn, Access to Findmypast is free this weekend, so you won't need to take out a subscription.
