There is a medal roll entry (British War & Victory medals) for 12560 Pte Stewart, John Hill. His service overseas is given as with 6th KOSB (Acting Corporal); 2nd KOSB; 7th/8th KOSB; 6th KOSB. There's a medal roll entry for the 1914-15 Star to the same man, 6th KOSB. It says he entered theatre of war 1 (so, France & Flanders) on 12th May 1915 and was transferred to Class Z Reserve on 27th May 1919. 12th May 1915 was the date of arrival at Boulogne of 6th KOSB, as part of 28th Brigade, 9th (Scottish) Division.

I'm no expert on regimental numbering, but others on here are - they may be able to estimate when John Stewart joined up. If you're looking for information about the various battalions of the King's Own Scottish Borderers, a good starting place is the LLT.

Cheers, Pat.

NB: his medal index card is filed on Ancestry as King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, an all-too-common error on KOSB records on that site.

to include 14-15 Star and mic info

Have just read your post properly, Vhs - apologies for posting general info about John Stewart, realise now you're after details of his time in hospital! Foolishness and haste are a bad combination...

Cheers, Pat.
