BillyH Posted 7 May , 2018 Share Posted 7 May , 2018 A soldier I have been researching was killed on the Somme and he was presumably buried, or left, on the battlefield. The concentration document shows the means of identification of the body was GRU.A.L.28 (see below) Can anyone tell me what that is please? BillyH. Justinth Posted 7 May , 2018 Share Posted 7 May , 2018 (edited) Morning Billy If you click on the link to my website here https://warrecordsrevealed.com/graves-registration-commission-directorate-of-graves-registration-enquiries-i-w-g-c-record-glossary/#unique-identifier9a it will take you to the entry for the Captain Thomas List. The codes applied to White Serial Crosses on the Somme. There is an explanation there of what I found out about the system and also the role of Captain Thomas (a G.R.U. officer) in trying to record the many scattered and isolated burials on the Somme.
