tocca Posted 6 May , 2018 Share Posted 6 May , 2018 I hope you enjoy some pics that i took in Cortellazzo on Piave river, near Venice. This bunker was built in order to defend Venice and to prevent that austroungarian troops cross the Piave river. This bunker was difended by Fiat model 1914 machine gun and SIA 1918 machine gun. The guys that operated in this area was member of San Marco Navy Infantri and maily a group of specialist called 'Caimani del Piave' 'Piave's Caimans'. Mainly formed with people of Piave area this guys was trained to swim exposing the minimum of body (caimans come fron this swimming way) to fight with combat knife, handgrenade and with japanese combat tecnique. They carry also a carbine model 91 'truppe speciali' but only for official duty, in course of operation they use unconventional fighting technique. In march 1918 12th the captain Andrea Bafile crossed the Piave river with four caimans, he was wounded by austrians and die for the wounds. He was awarned with golden medal for bravery. I add some pics of bunkers, machine guns and a 'Piave's caiman in uniform' moreover a internet pic of the monument to Piave's caiman, I hope you enjoy giacomo
