MelPack Posted 3 May , 2018 Share Posted 3 May , 2018 Wednesday 16 May A burial service for Second Lieutenant Eric Henderson will take place at 10:30 at CWGC Oak Dump Cemetery in Belgium. Second Lieutenant Henderson was killed on 7 June 1917 during the Battle of Messines whilst serving with the 8th (City of London) Battalion (Post Office Rifles). His body was not recovered when the battlefields were searched after the Armistice, however in 2017 remains were uncovered during road works south of Ieper. Artefacts discovered with the casualty [engraved silver coin] confirmed his identity and he will now be re-buried with dignity alongside his comrades. https://www.cwgc.org/learn/news-and-events/news/2018/04/30/14/40/burial-and-rededication-services-in-may https://stmargarets.london/archives/2018/01/great-uncle-returns.html https://stmargarets.london/archives/2018/01/great-uncle-returns.html
