Holme Valley Centenary Commemoration

Holme Valley Local History Group together with Honley Civic Society and Brockholes Village Trust are co-operating in a project to tell the stories of all those men from the Holme Valley who served in World War 1 on the Imperial War Museum's Website "Lives of the First World War"'.  It is hoped to include many of those who served and survived as well as those who died.

We are grouping the men into 'Communities' according to the war memorial on which their names are recorded; or by the valley township to which they are connected if they survived.   You can see these by entering 'Holmfirth' in the IwM website search box.  This work will be ongoing through the summer.

If your family member, or any serviceman you know of, was from the Holme Valley and served in World War 1, we would like very much to be able to link them to the project or to upload their stories for you.  We are particularly interested if you have photos of your family member or their unit but if necessary, copyright permission must be demonstrated before these can be published..

We do not forget that Tony Lund is the foremost researcher for Holmfirth servicemen but regrettably he is no longer active.

Information may be sought or submitted through this forum or our dedicated email address holmevalleyww1@gmail.com.

Thank you.
