Phill Jones Posted 21 April , 2018 Share Posted 21 April , 2018 I am hoping some one can advise me , on the use of Generic photographs of the Great war , i work in our local museum , in Nov as part of the Centenary our museum is staging an exhibition to remember those who were lost . I am wondering about using generic photos that feature on the internet to enhance our exhibition . The Exhibition is purely educational and no entrance fee applies if any photos used were correctly credited then would this be permissible. please can anyone confirm /advice . iain2210 Posted 8 May , 2018 Share Posted 8 May , 2018 Phil, The IWM has many photographs that are in the public domain. The link below is one of many, but the important bit is this: This work created by the United Kingdom Government is in the public domain. This is because it is one of the following: It is a photograph taken prior to 1 June 1957; or It was published prior to 1968; or It is an artistic work other than a photograph or engraving (e.g. a painting) which was created prior to 1968. HMSO has declared that the expiry of Crown Copyrights applies worldwide ...and here's the link, as an example:https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:NZ_troops_with_captured_German_anti-tank_rifle_1918_IWM_Q_11264.jpg You should be able to find what you want.
