Nice set !

Numbers on the pommel are usually taken to be rack numbers, so that the same bayonet is always fitted t othe same rifle.

Interesting that there are no additional inspection dates and stamps on the ricasso. This might suggest that it did not see active service.

Has also avoided the clearance hole drilled through the pommel, that was instituted in Jan. 1916. Your bayonet was made before that date, but most were retroactively drilled.

This is also possibly  consistent with lack of overseas service.

Are there any markings on the scabbard ?

Was the 5th Bn. Lancashire a reserve/training unit that never went overseas ?

Regards,

JMB

That`s actually the abbreviation for Kings Own, Royal Lancaster Regt. The 1/5 and 2/5 saw service in France.

Very nice combination, anything marked on the frog, helve carrier or the helve itself?

Unfortunately cant see from the pics the last digit of the date, also the pommel markings are unusual as normally orientated the other way round...but can't help with the D34.

Cannot find any markings on  scabard  or chape , unreadable  mark on frog.date on blade looks like 1915.

Helve faint mark could be a crown with an  E .

I have 2 1907's to this regiment:

Aug 15 EFD, pommel marked LAN / B 3 (no clearance hole)

Jan 16 Wilkinson, pommel marked 2 LAN / 830 (no clearance hole)

Cheers,

Tony

Always nice to see some pics!, could these number prefixes represent different sections/companies, as the only prefix that's quite common would be R indicating reserve.
