David_Underdown Posted 19 April , 2018 Share Posted 19 April , 2018 A centenary them again in this year's season announced today http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/mediapacks/proms-2018/centenaries#heading-first-world-war-and-remembrance Good to see Vaughan Williams' Pastoral Symphony and Dona nobis pacem making appearances, plus Towards the Unkown Region on the First Night. The First Night also has a commission from Anna Meredith "Five Telegrams" which takes as its starting point the words of five soldiers sent in 1918. Norrette Posted 20 April , 2018 Share Posted 20 April , 2018 Just opened my proms email, David. Of interest to some might be this one: https://www.royalalberthall.com/tickets/events/2018/proms-at-lincoln-drill-hall-the-soldiers-tale/ Quote "Following the success of last year’s ‘Proms at …’ concert in Hull, the BBC Proms once again travels outside London, this time to Lincoln. The city’s 19th-century Drill Hall – home to the Fourth Battalion of the Lincolnshire Regiment, deployed to the Western Front in 1914 – is the evocative setting for a staged performance of Stravinsky’s First World War music-theatre piece The Soldier’s Tale." There's a fair amount of Great War references throughout the season - some less obvious than others.
