Can anyone supply any information relating to this soldier Charles Bishop Rose 2558 Royal Fusiliers, according to his index card he served Gallipoli with the 2nd Battalion and was later killed i believe during the opening of the Messines campaign with the 1st Battalion, would he have been a pre war soldier or when transferred etc, anything at all very much appreciated

remembered on the Menin Gate and originally i believe from silverdale Staffs

He full number was S/2558.

He had a war gratuity of £13 net (£16 gross) when he died on 7 June 1917. This was paid for 33 months qualifying service. This indicates enlistment in the month from 8 September 1914.

The 1st Battalion RF (24th Division) war diary has a detailed account of the opening day of the Battle of Messines -  you can find it here if you have or can gain access to Ancestry, or here at the National Archives, downloadable for a small fee.

And The Long, Long Trail has this link.
