emo924 Posted 14 April , 2018 Share Posted 14 April , 2018 Hi London Gazette Does anyone know where the information would have come from which indicated where the recipient of a gallantry award - MM/DCM etc - came from. I am talking about the town or city etc which often (but not always) appears in brackets at the end of a man's entry. I have a pocket watch to a MM winner - the Gazette entry indicates he had some connection with WALTHAMSTOW. However, all the other research, soldiers papers and census etc show him as being born in Grimston, Norfolk, living in Todmorden and enlisting in Rochdale. I can find no link for this man to Walthamstow. Has anyone any ideas or suggestions - all greatly appreciated. Chris
OblivisCaris Posted 3 September , 2018 Share Posted 3 September , 2018 Hi Chris, I have transcribed the Walthamstow Roll of Honour, which lists 20,000 Walthamstow men who served in the Great War, so let me know his name and I can tell you if he is on it. Qualification was based on being born in Walthamstow, and/or living there and/or educated there. Chris
