I am trying to ascertain if 32043 Frank Griffiths was entitled to the SWB , see Attached , nothing appears in the SWB roll via Ancestry or am i simply misunderstanding the MIC , with regard to the entry .

also can any one tell me what the word is under action taken -----------. letter sent 5/3/20

he was formerly 5341 Herefordshire Regt .

Thank you Phill Jones

There shouldn't be a SWB if he died in service - only if he was discharged and eligible for a SWB at the point of discharge.

The card has been over-stamped with the medal entitlement so it may well be that a SWB application was made, was not eligible, and the card was then re-used for his medal entitlement rather than create another card.

The 14033/1/B part is going to be a correspondance file kept by the Medal Office. It does appear the father applied for either the medals or a SWB 23/2/1920. The father must have corresponded with them for them to have his address on the card.

Not sure about the commemorative letter sent out 5/3/1920

Bit odd that he has SWB annotated on his medal roll. Clearly he was KIA in France along with 2 other men of 14/Gloucs.
