Probably a bavarian Landwehr-Bataillon of a Landwehr-district with K (Kempten, Kitzingen, Kissingen or Kaiserslautern) 3.L.II.1.144: Landwehr-Bataillon Gumbinnen (from Landwehr-Regiment N°3), 1st company, weapon 144 84.R.7.138: Inf.Rgt.84, 7th company, qweapon 138 22.R.9.32: Inf.Rgt.22, 9th company, weapon 32 B.9.R.E.2.170: Ersatz-Bataillon of bavarian 9th Inf.Rgt, 2nd company, weapon 170 XIV.E.F.3.23: Etappen-Fuhrpark-Kolonne N°3 of XIV. Lucky you!!! Well, I think a Bavarian marking as 'upside down', and serial number on the reverse. These are odd, these extra numbers on so many Bavarian bayonets, nobody seems to know why they are there, more usually found on the quillon where present as on 98/05's. Heck, I've only just started! I own two muzzle covers of the Gew 1888 commission rifle and both have the initials of the units they belong to. The first one 54. R.E. 1. 12. and the second K.F.R. 6. 104.
