Guest Posted 7 April , 2018 Share Posted 7 April , 2018 Attached is a photo which has been sent to me by my cousin. Her grandfather appears in the photo, but her query is about the two men dressed in white - why are they wearing white uniforms? My initial thought was that they might be cooks. I was also wondering if in 1914 people were still wearing the equivalent of barrack fatigues? I would appreciate any suggestions regarding the wearing of white uniform at this time. Thanks, Iain
Ron Clifton Posted 7 April , 2018 Share Posted 7 April , 2018 Canvas suits for barrack fatigues were indeed worn prior to 1914, but these look too clean so I suspect you are right that they are cooks. Two cooks per company, under the eight-company organisation, seems about right. Ron
