Admin DavidOwen Posted 6 April , 2018 Admin Share Posted 6 April , 2018 It seems he served with both Scottish Rifles (twice) and the Royal Engineers too - his medal card is here (TNA charge £3.50, free if you are an Ancestry subscriber) http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/D4059728 David
kenmorrison Posted 6 April , 2018 Share Posted 6 April , 2018 Served as Private 1582 and 240133 with the Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) and as 424407 Royal Engineers. He landed in France on 20 March 1915 with I think the 1/6th Battalion. They joined the 23rd Brigade, 8th Division but moved to the 51st Highland Division soon after. roughdiamond Posted 6 April , 2018 Share Posted 6 April , 2018 4 hours ago, DavidOwen said: It seems he served with both Scottish Rifles (twice) Probably not, the Territorial Force was renumbered in 1917 explained here http://www.longlongtrail.co.uk/soldiers/a-soldiers-life-1914-1918/renumbering-of-the-territorial-force-in-1917/renumbering-the-tf-infantry-in-1917/ his 4 and 6 digit numbers as well as his date of entry tie in with him going to France with 1/6th and still being with them till at least early 1917 then transferring to the RE and finishing the war with them as his medals are on the RE medal rolls.
