condronjames Posted 31 March , 2018 Share Posted 31 March , 2018 Hello Could anyone shed any light into what the medal in the pictures would have been won for? What was the R.A.T.A. Cup held in 1908? It it was one by my Great Great Uncle, Benjamin Guiver. Would really appreciate any help. James
owen4256 Posted 31 March , 2018 Share Posted 31 March , 2018 (edited) James When the 1st Essex was posted to India, its branch of the Royal Army Temperance Association presented a Challenge Cup as the prize for a annual inter-company shooting competition. Teams of eight men competed with the service rifle. The 1908 competition was fired on the Hebbal Ranges three and a half miles from barracks at Thayetmyo. It was won by B Company with an aggregate score of 810. Each of the members of the winning team received one of the medal illustrated.
