Hi

Does anyone know where any of these camps trenches were in and around Elverdinge/ Ypres please? Larrey Camp Elverdinge, Road Camp? Also Pheasant Trench and Norfolk House HQ. Also mentions Spider Cross roads. Only got 24 four more hours before heading back home from Ypres. Just thought someone may know something.

Thank you on anticipation.

I found a map some time ago showing a lot of the camps on sheets 28 NW 1. It's 1918 but I don't think the camps moved around that much.

It has J, H, X, O, & W Camps and may have Y camp.

I know of one Spider Cross Roads at 20 se V 14 b 9 8     about 1 km north east of Poelkapelle. It can be seen on the maps in the October 1917 WD of 170 Infantry Brigade of 57 Div.

On the Belgian NGI (or IGN) 1:20,000 map Staden-Roeselare No 20  7-8  the crossroads is at map ref 982 422 by a building marked Ruste. Ruste is also marked on the 1:50,000 IGN Roeselare 19-20 map.

Wow Brian

Just seen your message. That's fantastic. Leaving after breakfast tomorrow for home so will get our bearings and check it out.

We have had a productive if personally moving experience coming to Ypres again.

Thanks for the help

You can park in the square in Poelkapelle by the Tank memorial. I was there in 2015 and 2016 to research 170 Infantry Brigade on 26/10/1917. All tarmac roads so you should not get muddy.

Hi Brian

Thank you so much for that info. It was like treading in Grandads footsteps.  Found location of Larry Camp too at Elverdinge.

Definately going to go back again.

Regards

Suzy
