Hello,

Does Lt Col Gregge Hopwood DSO get mentioned in this book ?  His family lived at Hopwood hall.

He certainly did his bit, a career officer who was killed in action with the Coldstream Guards

Cheers

It would help a lot to know which Middleton you are interested in. I somehow think it is not the one I am familiar with.

 Suspect it is:

Author is Martin Purdy
Title is Doing Our Bit: The Story of the Great War Told Through the Experiences of One Small Northern Town
Book is written in English

Copes easily tracked and can be ordered via www.bookfinder.com - but pereferably via GWF site:D

As shown in my link! Further examination shows that the 0.01p copy will cost £3.29 in p & p, though you can get one for 0.49p + £2.80 p & p - or you can lash out £10.40 + £2.80 p & p.

I didn't notice that - honest! There's no connection - (though the other week I noticed that someone was asking a very low price for unused copies of one of my books  :().

That's the one. Want to see if he is in the book as don't have the shelf space whether it's 1p or £10 if he isn't

I'd be amazed if there are 2 middletons with a book of the same title :)

Probably not. But the point is that that still does not do very much for me, as I am unfamiliar with the book. As my old Latin teacher used to say, perhaps I am an idler... anything you can do to make things easy for me is a good idea :)

I don't know the answer but the original poster in this thread knows the author - and looks like its Middleton, Lancashire.

Cheers,

Peter

Hi, it’s Ian here, sorry for the late reply to you.

yes, he’s in the book.

Give us your address and I’ll send you one in the post.

Have you seen this photo with both Stephen Burton and Byng Hopwood? Just took 12 days before they were both killed by the same shell.

And here is the entry from Middleton's Brave Sons for you. The book was printed after the war and contained the obituaries of several hundreds local of men who fell.
