Tracing medical officer Walter James McFeat

Walter James McFeat served as an officer of the Royal Army Medical Corps from July 1917 onwards. According to the British Medical Journal he was demobilised in 1919 and the Army List shows him as retired thereafter. He returned to his practice in Motherwell.

No service record is held by the National Archives and there is no trace of any campaign medals being issued. The Army List is uninformative regarding his appointments and postings. A search of the British Newspaper Archive brought up nothing of interest regarding his military service.

The BMJ said in his obituary in 1927, “During the war Dr. McFeat was on special medical service, and held the office of Deputy Assistant Director of Medical Services and Specialist Sanitary Inspector."

I would like to track down his story. So, it's a long shot but has anyone come across this man in his role as DADMS? Otherwise this is going to be a very long haul ...

You could try the Lanarkshire Family History Society http://www.lanarkshirefhs.org.uk who are based in Motherwell, there's also North Lanarkshire Heritage Centre https://culturenl.co.uk/museums/visiting-us/north-lanarkshire-heritage-centre/ also based in Motherwell.

Could it be a simple case he was based in the UK only therefore no medals?

Promoted temp. Capt. 9 July 1918 https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/30835/supplement/9360

Relinquished his commission on 22 March 1919 and retained the rank of Capt. https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/31330/supplement/5762

There is no indexing of an appointment of DADMS, or relinquishing such appointment, in the Gazette, which you would expect to find under Commands and Staff.
