Don Posted 26 March , 2018 Share Posted 26 March , 2018 Clement Robertson’s VC was presented to his mother on the 27 March 1918 in (The Royal Barracks) now called (Collins Barracks Dublin ). It was the only time during the Great War that a Victoria Cross was presented in Dublin City. It was presented to the Mother of Second Lieutenant (Captain) Clement Robertson who resided at Delgany Co Wicklow. Mrs Robertson could not travel to Buckingham Palace to receive the award, as was customary for all recipients or relatives. All posthumous VCs were presented to next to kin in the country in which they lived by a Governor General or high ranking general officer. As you probably know, Clement Robertson’s VC was presented to his mother It is of interest that King George V presented every VC, mostly in England. He did, however, visit France several times and made the following presentations:- Darwan Sing Negi, 5th Dec.1914, (GHQ) St Omer. William Gregg, 9th August 1918, (HQ 5th Army) Frohen-Le-Grand Theodore Hardy Ditto George Grogan, 8th August 1918, (HQ 1st Army) Ranchicourt Cecil Knox, 6th August 1918, (HQ 2nd Army) Blendecques Charles Train, Ditto Ernest Horlock, 3rd December 1914, (GHQ) St Omer Arthur Proctor, 10th August 1916, (HQ 4th Army) Amiens Oliver Brooks, 1st November 1915, Hospital Train, Aire
