Clement Robertson’s VC was presented to his mother in Dublin 100 years ago

Clement Robertson’s VC was presented to his mother on the 27 March 1918 in (The Royal Barracks) now called (Collins Barracks Dublin ).

It was the only time during the Great War that a Victoria Cross was presented in Dublin City.

It was presented to the Mother of Second Lieutenant (Captain) Clement Robertson who resided at Delgany Co Wicklow.

Mrs Robertson could not travel to Buckingham Palace to receive the award, as was customary for all recipients or relatives.

All posthumous VCs were presented to next to kin in the country in which they lived by a Governor General or high ranking general officer. As you probably know, Clement Robertson’s VC was presented to his mother

It is of interest that King George V presented every VC, mostly in England. He did, however, visit France several times and made the following presentations:-
