What exactly does 'having been claimed as an apprentice mean on a SWB record mean

An apprentice could be bound to a master and needed his permission to leave. If he left without permission the master could claim his apprentice back, even from the army.

Thank you for the explanation. I am also trying to find what regiment my father came from. I know it is the RFA and his regimental number was 92687 on his record cards and also there was an error and he was listed as 92587. He was mentinioned in Douglas Haig's despatches and received the emblem but would love to know for what reason. Cannot seem to find out the reason.

I think he may have been in 6thbrigade as it shows as 6/c on his record card but not sure if that is what it means.

Is this Thomas Bishop you are looking for?

MiD - London Gazette (Supplement) 18 May 1915, Page 4872 (See attached PDF).

Yes it is. I have this record but I am trying to find out which brigade he was with in the RFA and what reason he was given the oak leaf emblem for.

According to his MIC his first entry was into Egypt.  This might narrow your search down a tiny bit.  This would be a tough one to crack I think.  Good luck.

That's OIC, but it does look like 6/C

His MiD was for Europe. The reference quoted by RobertB above has this LG18May1917.JPG.38970a46331efb41e4ba2c219677791f.JPG
