About seven years ago I started a search for information about my Great Uncle, Farquhar Mclennan, 58th Battalion, CEF. He was killed in action on June 13, 1916, in the Battle of Sanctuary Wood. As I researched I realized that there was a great story in the material. I found pictures in archives and from relatives and information from the Library and Archives in Ottawa. I have shared some of that material here in this Forum. Eventually, the story came together as a manuscript and the manuscript has gone to a publisher for release this spring. The story is a novel called "Flowers of the Forest". To help get my story out I have prepared a Website, aptly called "Flowers of the Forest". https://flowersoftheforest.ca

I invite you to visit my website as I build it over the coming months. A few times a week I will add more posts and Pictures.

This is my personal contribution towards the Centenary of the Armistice. 5a8b7a145c46c_FarquharGeogeV.jpg.060eb98656803f17570da7c6295b0e4d.jpg

I have added another Blog to the site. I have been describing the "Great Trek". The 58th Battalion, along with 11 other battalions marched 116 KM from Niagara-on-the-Lake (Paradise Camp) to Toronto. The Trek took 6 days for each battalion. They encamped at Toronto until it was time to depart to Halifax, Nova Scotia. On November 22, 1915, they departed for Plymouth, England aboard the HMT, Saxonia.large.3-58th-battalion-cef.jpg.d7caed38094332d823e49fd1c67fd66d.jpg
