Remembered Today:

14th Battalion Kings Liverpool Regiment

I'm researching a soldier who served with the 14th Battalion Kings Liverpool Regiment - Charles Reynolds 56196

His military records don't exist and all IO know is that he died at home on the 8th March 1919.

I believe that the 14th spent most of the war fighting in Salonika?

I also can't find any war gratuity records so estimating enlistment dates is not possible.

Can anyone help further please?

Thanks in advance.

If he's not there (assuming he's not hiding - I only had a quick look) that indicate he was discharged and his war gratuity sorted prior to him having died, there would be no need for the gratuity to be recorded in the effects in that situation.

Thx Craig

Do the war diaries for the Salonika campaign exist anywhere?

Regards

Russ

I think they're still only at the NA but I don't think they've been digitised.

It's hard to get a grasp on the numbering but it looks like #56202 was allocated Dec 16 in Salonika to a 14th Bn man so I'd suspect a batch of men sent on and then re-tasked at a depot.

He was previously 17209 East Yorks. Went to France 8th Battn EYR 9/9/15. BW/VM roll shows 14th and 18th Battns in the KLR - in that order

Note here

So looks so wounded and then transferred based on Craig's info.

#17202 was allocated 28 Sep 1914.

Wow thx Mark great spot on the CWGC - I'd missed that!

Family moved to USA(where Charles is born) but returned after death of father in 1897.

So it looks like he was wounded in France whilst serving with the EYR then transferred to 14th KLR and was gassed in Salonika?
