brodie Posted 18 February , 2018 Share Posted 18 February , 2018 Peter Thomson from Edinburgh was a Lance Corporal in the 202nd Protection Co of the RDC (No 16025). He died on the Scottish island of Raasay on 15th Nov 1917 as a result of a lung haemorrhage following a gunshot wound. This is shown on his death certificate. I’ve established that he was probably on Raasay guarding German POWs housed there to work in a mine. But I can’t find anything to explain how he got shot. Does anyone have any idea where there might be some record of the incident? No trace in Scotsman newspaper archive.
Loader Posted 19 February , 2018 Share Posted 19 February , 2018 If it was his fault or mistake by other guards then maybe newspapers encouraged not to print such stories. If shot by a POW then I'm sure the news would have been widespread. Interesting event in any case, maybe attempted suicide, argument that went too far, who knows. Good luck on the research.
