Sophie78 Posted 16 February , 2018 Share Posted 16 February , 2018 I have recently found out that my Great Grandfather served in WW1 from an electoral roll record that specified his entitlement as 'NM'. None of our family knew anything of his service, despite both his sons being in the Army and serving in WW2 and thereafter. I realise that limited service records exist and have exhausted all possibilities, finding nothing. I am now wondering if there were ever any records kept by the venues where men enlisted. I know he is most likely to have signed up (or been conscripted) in Bootle Town Hall, Liverpool into the Service Corps as he was in his late 30s and worked with horses as a carter. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? If I could find out when and where he joined it may give me another lead.

Sophie78 Posted 16 February , 2018 Author Share Posted 16 February , 2018 Hi, his name was James Walton born 1879.. he lived in Bootle, Liverpool from 1911 until 1941. He had Scottish/Cumbrian heritage and both his sons served from 1937 in Liverpool Scots and later the Paras. Thanks
