Remembered Today:

No 9017 Private Samuel Kirkpatrick

Hello All,

I have a small artefact that probably belonged to No 9017 Private Samuel Kirkpatrick of the 2nd Battalion Welsh Regiment.  According to his MIC, he died on the 26th September 1914.  He has no known grave and is remembered on the La Ferte-Sous-Jouarre Memorial, situated some 66km east of Paris.

Please can anyone shed some light on the details of his death/where he came from etc.?  I would love to find a connection as to how this spoon ended up in my parents cutlery drawer!  Unfortunately, they have both passed away and I cannot ask them.

With grateful thanks,

V/R

Think parents are Samuel and Margaret and in 1911 age 24 Samuel was with his regt. Family seem to be Newport, Risca based and mother born in Pontypool, nephew age 23 (Edward Kirkpatrick) living with them in 1891 when Samuel was 4.
