mwfoster Posted 10 February , 2018 Share Posted 10 February , 2018 I'm looking for help with the handwritten notes for my Grandfather, William Foster, 3/10544, Royal Irish Rifles. I do have both of his medals, but am curious about what the notes mean. Any help will be appreciated, Thank you, Mark Foster Roanoke Island, North Carolina, America
wandererpaul Posted 11 February , 2018 Share Posted 11 February , 2018 It’s to do with his British War and Victory medals being returned (1924?) and then reissued (1928?). What for? Not a clue unless someone knows the Kings Regualtions details they were returned and reissued under?! someone, with far greater knowledge than I, will be along soon to give a better reason. Derek Black Posted 11 February , 2018 Share Posted 11 February , 2018 A common reason that has come up previously is that they went to the wrong address, not having been updated on a mans records, then they reissue them when they are contacted by the recipient/family applying for them at a later date. mwfoster Posted 11 February , 2018 Author Share Posted 11 February , 2018 Thank you gentlemen for the quick response. I see the 1924 date and the 1928 date - is one of those notes a code for why they were returned?. He was in England until Jan 1928 when he emigrated to America.
