SMG65 Posted 9 February , 2018 Share Posted 9 February , 2018 Sent the above without writing anything. Could anyone tell me what this is? I was given it over 10 years ago by a friend. The only thing I can say about is that the DLI Badge is the same size as those on CWGC Headstones. Sean
Coldstreamer Posted 9 February , 2018 Share Posted 9 February , 2018 does it have any age to it ?
SMG65 Posted 10 February , 2018 Author Share Posted 10 February , 2018 No age, just the number 1017. Under the badge it looks like plywood and the badge and the outer area feel like a 'plastic wood'. It could possibly be some form of stencil? Sean

Sean It looks to me like a stone mason's stencil, as used for the CWGC grave stones.
Radlad Posted 10 February , 2018 Share Posted 10 February , 2018 Can't see it being a stencil. Possibly a template for an engraving machine or a pattern for a silicone rubber mould. Doesn't look angled enough on the sides for a sand casting pattern. What are the dimensions please?

The stones used to be carved entirely by hand, but perhaps not now, so on reflection you might well be right regarding connection with a machine.
