Hello! I’m trying to look for FHR’s father - Captain George Tolman Ralls’ record... on FHR’s burial it states that his father had a M.M awarded - but can’t find any info? Help appreciated as always...

All seems a bit odd. If I getting my sums right. GTR seems to have been born 1839. The MM was instituted in 1916. So he would have been 77 if he won it in 1916. So mistake somewhere I suspect

Hi Mark, thanks for that - it does seem odd - I can't find a record of it. GTR was born in 1839, died 1927 - just don't know why it is listed on the War Graves document for FHR in 1918...

He must of been pretty nimble at 77 to be awarded the M.M (!)

He was a Captain in the army - but can't find any other record of him (Noted on FHR award card)

Theory - 1911 census, father George is a Master Mariner so perhaps whoever provided CWGC with the info put MM to represent his maritime position.

Hi Tom,

George Tolman Ralls as the father on a couple of marriage Banns entries. Confirming Captain and Mstr.Mnr.

Nice work on the frames btw!

Captain MM could also be Captain, Mercantile Marine (ie what's now Merchant Navy)
