Remembered Today:

Identifying uniform

Hi

I have a photo of my Great Great Grandfather, Albert Charles West, born 1880 in Venn Ottery, Devon, England. I was wondering if anybody could identify his uniform so I can try and find a medal card etc

Thanks

In general there is very little Insignia, and the uniform is standard 1902 Service Dress.  However, there is an embroidered regimental shoulder title that I have tried to enhance to read.  It looks as if it might be ‘Artists’, as in Artists Rifles and be topped by the head of Mars and Minerva.  That would be odd as it was a unit for training officer cadets, and based in London.  If you have a magnifier the print itself might be easier to read.

There was a unit of Devon ‘Artillery’ with a sub-unit in Ottery St Mary.

Two threads running on this one. The other thread has a close up of the shoulder title,  which Steven Broomfield has an identified as being Worcestershire regiment.

Many thanks.  Didn’t spot it.
