Guest LeeGreensall Posted 2 January , 2005 Share Posted 2 January , 2005 Trying to help a friend find a lost relative. Private Lucy, possibly enlisted in Warwickshire In either the Devon or Dorsets, he mentioned that they did not amalgamate till later. apparently kiiled in the Somme 1916. I have looked on the CWGC but no mention of any D&D's units sorry its a bit thin, but its all we have at the moment. Can anybody help?
Hambo Posted 2 January , 2005 Share Posted 2 January , 2005 Lee I've had a look in SDGW and there are 15 men who died called Lucy but none in the Devons or the Dorsets. one did enlist in Birmingham but was killed in 1917 Have you got a first name or initials? I know from experience that family legend and reality don't always tie up (according to the family my grandfather was a Grenadier Guardsman, when I got to the PRO I found he was a Royal Fusilier) All the best Hambo
SPotter Posted 6 January , 2005 Share Posted 6 January , 2005 Was Pte Lucy an ex Regular soldier? There was a 4067 Pte A Lucy who served with the Dorsets earning an India Medal, and both Queens and Kings South Africa Medals. His number falls into a sequence issued on 22.08.1893 to a number of men who transferred into the Dorsets from the Northampton Regt. This is the only LUCY I have on my records who served with the Dorsets during the period 1881-1918. This is based on medal rolls, so if he transferred and his medals were issued off the roll of another Regt I would not have him on my list. Hope this helps, Steve

Hambo Posted 8 January , 2005 Share Posted 8 January , 2005 Annoyingly I have sent my SDGW disc for the upgrade but I've got a feeling the man I mentioned in my earlier posting was in the Northamptons, but I'll confirm as soon as get my disc back ( unless someone beats me to it) Hambo
