Hello All, I am researching my Great Uncle - Private Vincent Armitage 42240 who served with the 6th Battalion of the Leicester Regiment, died aged 18 on 28th May 1918. He was born in Shelley Huddersfield on 14th May 1899 (which would have made him 19 actually on the date of his death). Remembered in the Soissons Memorial.

I have his medal card but if anyone has any information either on him or on the 6th around the date of his death I should be grateful as the centenary of his death is approaching.

(Great forum, wish I had found it sooner!)

Hi Dave , second day of the 3rd battle of the Aisne would have been where he had fallen. During a large scale attack by the Germans to win the war before the arrival of the Americans. Ironically I think the 6th battalion were sent there to recuperate but instead found themselves in the mouth of the storm. The attack was centred around the Chemin Des Dames ridge. A lot of reading material is available on the 3rd battle of the Aisne . I hope this is of help to you. Kindest regards ,Warren.
